Women & Equalities Questions: 10th February 2021

The pandemic has brought into focus the significant challenges faced by many who are juggling caring and working responsibilities, but are ineligible for flexible working. This disproportionately impacts women.

At Women & Equalities Qs, I called on the UK Govt to accept that the right to request flexible working must be in place from day one of employment. We cannot continue to think that the world of work should go back to what was normal. It is neither realistic nor reasonable.

Pandemic pressures have often reinforced existing issues, and this is just one of the areas in relation to work where new thinking is needed.

We do not, regrettably, have the power to make changes to employment law, and in cases such as this, changes are assuredly required.
