Virgin Money

Poor show from Virgin Money, confirming they are closing their doors in Giffnock, and suggesting folk go to Newton Means instead, which is of course a totally different town.

This was previously announced - when they suggested Giffnock and Newton Mearns were the same place, so at least we have moved on from that.

However, they then called a halt to their plans in March, and said to me and their customers: "we are committed to maintaining our branch and contact centre services". That now seems a deeply cynical way to communicate, given this latest development.

Our communities need banking facilities. Access to banking and cash is important for our local businesses, and often particularly important for local residents who may struggle with the ability to travel around, or are vulnerable in a range of ways.

I will go back to Virgin, asking them to look again.
