VAT on Hair and Beauty Services

Kirsten

Keeping up the pressure on the Chancellor to deliver what is actually needed in the forthcoming budget, rather than plunge us all into Thatcher-style Tory austerity. Our businesses and employees need certainty of support, and that includes proper account being taken of groups like the Hair and Beauty Salons, which are such an integral part of our High Streets, performing an important social and wellbeing function as well as keeping us all looking a lot bette than we do without their help.

I know what efforts this industry has put in to Covid safety, and how adaptable it is, but what is really needed is a VAT cut to 5% for the hair, beauty and holistic services industry.

I've sponsored this Early Day Motion, tabled by my colleague Alison Thewliss MP, and will keep up the pressure for sensible measures to support all our community in the budget. It's pretty clear we could make these important choices ourselves, without delay, if we had the powers to do so as a normal independent country.
