Every suicide is a tragedy, and no suicide should be inevitable.
That is why, together with COSLA, the Scottish Government is developing a new suicide prevention strategy for Scotland. They want to hear your views on suicide prevention in Scotland. You can feed in here.
The Scottish Government's vision is of a Scotland where suicide is preventable, and where help and support is available to anyone contemplating suicide and to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Suicide prevention is everyone's business. You can read more about the strategy here.
I know this is a challenging and difficult subject, but it is so important that we don't shy away from talking about it.
Recently, I have been very grateful to constituents who have taken the time to talk to my team on this issue, and for example explore the challenges around male suicide, amongst other issues. We need to keep talking, and your participation in this consultation is a great help.
