Leading the way on human rights: The SNP has said Scotland can be a global leader in human rights, committing to incorporate additional UN treaties into law if re-elected on 6th May. Another excellent reason to make it both votes SNP.
The SNP has already passed the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill, which incorporated the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law.
If re-elected, the SNP will go further by incorporating four more United Nations Human Rights treaties into domestic law, including – The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, and The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
A fairer Scotland works better for all our communities. That the UK Government thinks it appropriate to mount legal challenges against progressive policies like these says a great deal about their priorities. We can do so much better.
