Hair salons are an important mainstay of our local high streets, offering much valued services as well as employment - and a boost to wellbeing.
I have been speaking to some local hair salons about the burden they are feeling from the impact of tax, particularly VAT. This makes their businesses less sustainable, and that's an unwanted risk for all our local business areas.
I asked the chancellor today to heed their concerns and look to reduce the VAT burden on salons employing staff to 10%. Hugely disappointing that he had no sensible response.
I have now written to him formally to make the same request, and I will continue advocating for our East Ren businesses.
