I am absolutely gutted that Nicola Sturgeon has decided to stand down. She has been an outstanding leader for our country and for my party. It has been a huge privilege to be part of her team.
As the first female First Minister, the person who steered us through Covid, a consistent voice focussed on human rights and equality, and improving the lives of everyone living in Scotland, she has put her all into her work over many years as an MSP, Minister, and then as First Minister.
There will be processes set out in coming days for the appointment of a First Minister and SNP Leader, and I know we have many talented people we will hear further from. For today though, I want to say thank you to someone who has inspired me, and continues to do so.
