Very helpful to meet with Network Rail this morning to be updated on their works to improve the East Kilbride line which runs through a number of East Ren stations. Good to catch up with my colleague Collette Stevenson MSP for East Kilbride at the meeting.
The East Kilbride Enhancement Project is a £140m investment at the centre of the Scottish Government’s ongoing strategy to decarbonise Scotland’s Railway. Electrifying the route and introducing electric trains, will enable carbon free journeys for communities along the East Kilbride - Glasgow railway corridor.
In addition significant improvements in accessibility will make a significant difference to many local residents.
I was also pleased hear about the work going on to improve waking and cycling routes in the areas where works will be taking place.
As this project progresses I will pass on details of works to ensure residents are kept up to date.
