Important contributions from the TUC today on the gender pay gap, which I raised at Business Questions. As things stand, this sits at nearly 15%, which is an outrage in this day and age. This means on average, women have worked every day from 1st Jan to today for nothing, compared to a man, if we look at annual earnings.
The UK Government needs to have a clear focus on resolving this - where is the elusive Employment Bill for instance, why are there not more useable effective provisions for leave for parental and caring responsibilities, what more can we do on flexible work - or of course they could devolve the powers to enable Scotland to legislate on fair work. This is, of course, another example of the difference we could make if we had the powers of a normal independent country.
