MASK SLIPS AS BORIS SAYS DEVOLUTION A MISTAKE: 17th November 2020

The mask has well and truly slipped as Boris Johnson is caught claiming that devolution was a mistake.

Independence is the only way to protect Scotland's interests and democratic powers.

In a call with Tory MPs, the Prime Minister claimed "devolution has been a disaster north of the border" and was a "mistake" - rubbishing tired unionist claims the UK could become a federal state by arguing he did not "see a case" for devolving more powers.

It comes as the Tory UK Internal Market power grab bill threatens to attack the foundations of the devolution settlement - by giving Westminster the power to overrule the Scottish Parliament in key devolved areas including the NHS, education, transport, infrastructure, food, agricultural, and environmental standards.

Boris Johnson has previously showed his disdain for Scotland by claiming “a pound spent in Croydon is of far more value to the country than a pound spent in Strathclyde", that “devolution is causing all the strains that its opponents predicted, and in allowing the Scots to make their own laws, while free-riding on English taxpayers, it is simply unjust", and that Scottish people are “grossly over-represented at Westminster”.

Fourteen polls in a row have now shown a majority for independence in Scotland - with the most recent poll by Panelbase showing support at 56%.

The Tory mask has well-and-truly slipped after Boris Johnson was caught red-handed claiming that Scottish devolution is a mistake.

The Tory government is undertaking a full scale assault on Scotland's devolution settlement with its power grab bill. The Prime Minister's disdain only serves to underline the growing threat we face.

Scotland has been completely ignored by Westminster throughout the Brexit process - demonstrating that we will never be treated as an equal partner in the UK. It is clearer than ever that the only way to protect Scotland's interests is to become an independent country.

People in Scotland haven't forgotten that the Tory leader in Scotland repeatedly voted against new powers for the Scottish Parliament, rubber-stamped imposing an extreme Brexit against Scotland's will, and voted for the UK Internal market Bill, which gives Westminster the power to overrule Scotland in key devolved areas including the NHS, education, transport, infrastructure, food and environmental standards.

The fact is Westminster cannot be trusted to respect Scotland's wishes. The people of Scotland have the right to determine our own future instead of having an extreme Brexit and power grab imposed, against our will, by a Tory government we didn't vote for
