Over 80% of Guide Dog owners have experienced access refusals - where they are told they can’t enter a business or access a service - and most of them have experienced this within the last year.
This is dispiriting and humiliating for those affected, as well as being very unfair. It’s difficult too if they have to keep arguing the case - who would want to do that repeatedly? Most people are shocked to learn that this happens at all.
One of the best things we can do is to increase awareness. This is an issue I have had a number of meetings on, and it was good to meet Guide Dogs UK yesterday to discuss things further.
