Today is UK Budget Day. Along with colleagues, one of the vital issues I will press the UK Government on, is the astounding fact that 12 months on from the start of the pandemic, so many people remain entirely excluded from any of the support provisions the Chancellor has put into place.
Despite months of repeated pressure, he continues to ignore these people who were starting new jobs, doing contract or freelance work, were self employed, small business owners, or many others. This affects around 3 million people, and a number of them live in East Renfrewshire.
I am glad to join colleagues from parties across the parliament, business leaders, Trade Union representatives in writing to Rishi Sunak, calling again for this very urgently needed action.
