Although Endometriosis affects 1.5million women in the UK, just 49% of the public are aware that endometriosis is a gynaecological health condition – a figure which drops to just 31% of men.
There has been precious little progress in our understanding and treatment of endometriosis over the last few decades, so I am delighted to see the Scottish government funding research into the first non-hormonal drug for endometriosis with trials underway.
I am also keen that we grow an understanding that awareness is vital to ensuring everyone recognises the signs and symptoms of endometriosis, and when and how to seek help if they are experiencing symptoms.
