Education Questions 26th April 2021

I had two questions today, on Universities. With vital Official Development Assistance funding reduced by 70% by the UK Government, Universities including Glasgow University, are left in a difficult position, trying to find alternative sources of funds to continue vital and potentially life saving research. The Minister had no answer to this, as you can see.

I then asked about student fees. The SNP has a policy of free University education, unlike the extremely large sums of money which students in England are required to pay for their education. However, when I asked Gavin Williamson about this, he also had nothing of note to say.

Our Unviersities are vital to our economy and our communities. And our young people should not be automatically saddled with student debt. This Tory UK Government is found to be very much wanting on both counts.
