Really positive meeting with East Renfrewshire Disability Action (ERDA), talking about important issues affecting many people in our local community. The main themes of discussion were accessibility and employability. Particular concerns were raised about the total lack of disabled access at Williamwood Station. This is not a new issue, and ERDA is already looking at this in conjunction with CCC - Clarkston Community Council. I have also been in touch with Network Rail to investigate further what might be possible.
It was also very useful to discuss the need to guard against the current Covid challenges becoming further barriers to employment for disabled people. We talked about the importance of getting great disabled candidates in front of employers and how we can work together in East Renfrewshire to move that forward. I look forward to working on this with ERDA and councillor colleagues. I will talk further about this issue, and the great work ERDA is doing, in my forthcoming House of Commons debate on The Future of Work, which takes place on 5th November.
