Debate on Islamophobia

This week, I was pleased to contribute to a debate on Islamophobia, and speak about the importance of listening to those with lived experience when we work out how best to tackle this.

It is the responsibility of all of us to tackle it, and we need to be open to the fact that this is an issue everywhere.

It was therefore very disappointing to see eye rolling and hear theatrical sighs from some Tory MPs when important points were being made by those who regrettably do have the lived experience I have referred to.

Their colleagues who made very eloquent and thoughtful speeches must have been as scunnered at them as the rest of us were. This is on us all. Whether it be Islamophobia or any other form of prejudice, we all have a responsibility to call it out and stamp it out.
