I recently partipated in a debate on birth trauma. In advance of the debate, a number of brave women made contact with me to share their very difficult personal experiences. I did my best to reflect these in my contribution.
We are fortunate that mostly, having a baby is a joyous time, and we are well supported by the best medical teams. Sometimes however things do not do to plan, and it’s clear that some of the issues experienced would be avoided if women were properly listened to. The consensus was that a partnership approach between women and medical teams, and a focus on listening and learning from issues were the key ways to secure the best possible outcomes for mum and baby.
