Cancel Immigration Removal Centres for Women
Glad to be part of a group of 76 parliamentarians across parties who have written to the Home Secretary urging her to cancel all plans for a proposed new Immigration Removal Centre for women.
Plainly this flies in the face of their commitment to reduce detention, and raises serious concerns regarding the harm detention causes and the trauma experienced by those who have been detained in such facilities. The remote nature of the facility also raises concern regarding the challenges likely to be faced in securing legal advice and visits from family members including children.
The UK Government also has questions to answer regarding pilot scheme reviews, and ploughing ahead on this without proper review of the pilot scheme gives rise to more questions in and of itself.
