Budget Debate 17/3/20

Today, I spoke in the Budget debate. Things have moved on significantly since the Chancellor delivered his budget only a few days ago. I welcome his subsequent announcements and the appreciation that this is a situation of such magnitude that there must be unprecedented action taken.

This needs to be speedy, for instance in relation to the need for the Scottish Government to have information on consequential funding immediately so that this can be put to use in our Health Service.

In addition, there is a pressing need for action for those who are in the benefits system and in vulnerable situations, those who are self employed, and those on zero hours contracts. Additionally, I pressed for further action in relation to businesses, and insurance.

We need these issues to be progressed as a matter of real urgency, and to all work with that focus in mind.
