BREXIT TRANSITION EXTENSION MUST BE SOUGHT: 21st December 2020

Many constituents have been in touch today deeply worried about the challenges relating to the situation at the Channel, and the terrible lorry queues which will cause such harm to our export businesses.

They have expressed grave concerns about the impact of this, alongside a damaging and reckless Brexit and the worry of the impact of the new strain of Covid on our lives.

Constituents are aware of and grateful for the clear stance Nicola Sturgeon has taken, that an immediate transition extension should be secured. In contrast, Boris Johnson has shed precisely no helpful information onto the situation, and has instead advised that there are only 174 lorries parked on the M20 during his press conference earlier. At latest count there are actually 945.

This is not good enough and he needs to get a grip. Meantime, we will keep pressing for clarity, provide support to our suppliers, and work hard to keep people safe at this very difficult time.
