Boris Johnson is Going

So - finally - Boris Johnson is going, after such an incredibly long period of chaos, more than 50 ministerial departures, and surely now an inability to run any kind of Government.

The Westminster system is truly broken, and rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic with any new leader won't change that.

For Scotland, the democratic deficit inherent in Westminster government doesn’t get fixed by changing Prime Minister, and none of the alternative Tory PMs would ever be elected in Scotland. On policy, it is impossible to see what real difference hard Brexit supporting Labour offers.

Independence only happens if a majority living in Scotland choose it - but there is no doubt it offers the real and permanent alternative to Westminster, and the opportunity to fulfil our potential at home and play our part as a good global citizen. It’s time for that choice.

As a side note, it's also very hard to see how he can possibly remain in a caretaker role until Autumn, and I suspect today will need to bring further news on that front.
