Black Maternal Health Debate

Glad to be able to highlight the shocking disparity in maternal health outcomes for Black, Asian and Mixed Race women, in a Westminster Hall debate today.

Black women are four times more likely to die in pregnancy than white women. It's insufficiently understood why this is the case, but this is plainly an incredibly serious issue and one which should occupy much more of our time.

Glad to see the Scottish Government look at these health inequalities in its Womens' Health Plan, and to see today a very comprehensive Race Equality Plan published by the Scottish Government. The UK Government needs to have a similar action-based focus. There should be no disparity in maternal health outcomes based upon the colour of your skin.
