Hugely chuffed to have met with East Renfrewshire’s multiple medial winning Special Olympian, Amy Clark today.
She is a very talented gymnast who has competed in three different Special Olympics, and her dedication has led her to stunning success at the most recent games held in Berlin earlier this year.
Amy was the first person from Team GB to win a medal, winning gold in the rhythmic gymnastics event to become level 4 all-round champion. She also won further awards in the apparatus final, including a silver in clubs, bronze for her ribbon routine, and fourth and fifth ribbons for ball and hoop routines respectively.
Special Olympics GB is the largest provider of year-round sports training and competition for children and adults of all abilities with learning disabilities, and as Amy’s mum pointed out, many people won’t know about the excitement of the Special Olympics competition because we don’t see it on TV. I’d really like to see that change. I would love to watch!
The hard work continues for Amy who is obviously so dedicated to her sport. Her coaches at City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club must be delighted that all the hard work has paid off.
I was very impressed to hear that she is now a finalist in the Scottish Gymnastics annual awards in the Senior Gymnast category. Best of luck to Amy with this and for her future gymnastic success.
Many thanks to Amy and her family for a brilliant visit to such an inspiring local sportswoman. I’m glad to have noted Amy’s success in the parliamentary record and given her a copy to keep. You can see this here: https://edm.parliament.uk/.../amy-clark-special-olympics...
